What this site knows about you. It is less than you would expect, and there is no account.
There is nothing to sign up for.
No account, no email, no password, no name. You open a page and start listening. We never ask who you are, and we have no way of finding out.
So that your starred videos and your place in a clip survive a reload, your browser generates a random key the first time you use the site and keeps it in its own storage. It identifies that browser, not you. Against that key our server stores two things and nothing else:
Your settings — playback speed, which language the translation is in, blind mode, and the words you saved to your dictionary — never leave your browser at all. They live in its local storage, on your device.
Like any web server, ours records each request in a log: the address it came from, the page asked for, the time, and which browser asked. These logs exist to keep the site running and to stop abuse. They are not joined to your key and are not used to build a picture of anyone.
YouTube. Every video plays in YouTube’s own player. We embed it through youtube-nocookie.com, which holds off on YouTube’s tracking cookies until you actually press play; from that moment YouTube sees the playback and applies its own rules, which we neither control nor see. Their terms are Google’s privacy policy.
Google Analytics. We use it to count visits and see which clips people finish. It sets its own identifiers in your browser and reports to Google. We look only at totals, never at individuals. If you would rather not be counted, any content blocker or Google’s own opt-out add-on stops it, and the site works exactly the same without it.
There is no advertising here, no third-party trackers beyond those two, and nothing is sold or handed to anyone else.
Clearing site data for spainbaum.com in your browser removes the key, your settings and your dictionary at once; what was stored against that key on our side becomes unreachable and is deleted when we next clean up. If you would like it gone sooner, write to hola@spainbaum.com — send the key from Settings and we will delete the row.
Spainbaum is not aimed at children and asks for no personal information from anyone, of any age.
This page describes how the site actually works today. It is not legal advice. If the site changes what it stores, this page changes with it.
